Getting Started
Common questions about setting up and using WUCall.
How do I enable call screening?
- Open WUCall
- Tap the shield button on the home screen to enable protection
- If prompted, grant WUCall the "Call Screening" role
- That's it! Unknown calls will now be screened
Why do I need to grant permissions?
WUCall requires several permissions to function:
| Permission | Why It's Needed |
|---|---|
| Call Screening Role | This Android system role allows WUCall to intercept incoming calls before they ring |
| Read Contacts | To check if an incoming caller is in your contacts (known callers are not screened) |
| Send SMS | To send the auto-reply message to screened callers |
| Read Phone State | To detect when calls are coming in |
All permissions are used only for call screening. No data leaves your device.
What happens when I enable protection?
When protection is enabled:
- Incoming calls are checked against your contacts
- If the caller is in your contacts, the call rings normally
- If the caller is not in your contacts, WUCall checks your rules
- Based on the matching rule, the call may be silently rejected
- If configured, an SMS is automatically sent asking why they're calling
Will this block calls from my contacts?
No. By default, WUCall only screens calls from numbers not in your contacts. Your friends, family, and saved contacts will always get through.
You can create rules that apply to contacts if needed, but this is disabled by default.
