Troubleshooting
Solutions to common issues.
Call screening is not working
Check the Call Screening Role
WUCall needs the Android "Call Screening" role to intercept calls:
- Go to your device Settings > Apps > Default apps
- Look for Caller ID & spam or Call screening
- Make sure WUCall is selected
If WUCall isn't listed, try:
- Restarting your phone
- Reinstalling WUCall
- Checking that your Android version is 10 (Q) or higher
Check that protection is enabled
Open WUCall and make sure the shield icon shows protection is ON (green).
Check your rules
If you have no active rules, or all rules are set to allow calls, screening won't occur. Make sure you have at least one rule configured to reject calls.
SMS is not being sent
Check SMS permission
- Go to device Settings > Apps > WUCall > Permissions
- Make sure SMS permission is granted
Check your carrier
- Some carriers may have restrictions on automated SMS
- Ensure you have SMS capability on your plan
- Check if you have sufficient balance (for prepaid plans)
Check the rule configuration
Make sure the matching rule has a message configured. If the message field is empty, no SMS will be sent.
Calls from contacts are being blocked
By default, WUCall does not screen calls from your contacts. If this is happening:
- Check that the caller is actually saved in your contacts
- Make sure the phone number format matches exactly
- Check if any rules have "Applies to contacts" enabled
The app uses too much battery
WUCall is designed to be battery-efficient, using Android's native call screening API. If you notice high battery usage:
- Check Settings > Battery to see actual usage
- Make sure you're running the latest version
- Try clearing the app cache
Normal battery impact should be minimal (< 1%).
